The Department of Microbiology at Rathinam College of Arts and Science was established in the year 2018. The Undergraduate in Microbiology will certainly be churning out not just graduates with knowledge acquired through rote learning but will be producing students who will be employable and also create employment which is the need of the hour. The department is vibrant with various programs, seminars, symposiums, conferences, and workshops to enhance the knowledge of the students. The department faculties also eminently organized, participated, and presented several papers in seminars and conferences.

Key factors / Uniqueness of the program

This department would serve as a platform on various aspects in the fields of Bioscience with a special focus on improving the standard of modern job opportunities with special reference to entrepreneurship. Eminent researchers, technologists, and entrepreneurs from various streams of Microbiology and other Life Science domain are brought into a single rostrum, for presenting and sharing their experience in various areas of Life Science. The department is envisaged to be highly interactive and scientifically vibrant in training the students at levels of their study.

Skill Training

The students opting Microbiology program would be trained in various aspects of the scientific domain ranging from fundamentals of the research to advanced integrated modules which focus on enriching the analytical skillset suitable for various industrial requirements. Skill training for medical coding, HACCP, medical diagnostics, and Molecular techniques are being provided to the students.

The Department has collaborated with some of the leading industries in and around Tamil Nadu such as Rajshree Bio solutions Pvt Ltd, Professional Infotech Pvt Ltd, Centre for Bioscience and Nanoscience Research, Illume Gene Pvt Ltd, Shefa Agro Care, Angel Starch Pvt Ltd, and Coromandel Group of Companies, etc. Notably, an MoU has been signed with Westchester Knowledge works, Bengaluru, and the R&D lab focusing on connecting Life science with Technology for finding solutions to chronic ailments.

The department offers a three-year Undergraduate B.Sc program in Microbiology. Activities in the Department of Microbiology are wide-ranging, reflecting the diversity of modern Life Science sectors. The Department aims to provide an ideal milieu for inter-disciplinary and collaborative activities with funds from different funding agencies. The faculty members of the department are involved in organizing various student-centric extracurricular and co-curricular activities and also actively encourage Bio-entrepreneurship with the support of AIC. The technical session was conducted, where Dr. Aravindh Selvaraj and Dr. Arul Ganesh, QA Analyst, Pfizer, Chennai delivered their keynote lecture for the forenoon session.
